Description

Delicious Portuguese custard tarts with a flaky pastry and creamy filling, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 roll of puff pastry
  • 250 ml of milk
  • 250 ml of cream
  • 150 g of sugar
  • 30 g of flour
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • Zest of lemon
  • Cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut circles for the tart molds.
  3. In a saucepan, mix the milk, cream, sugar, and flour.
  4. Heat over medium, stirring until the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and quickly stir in the egg yolks, vanilla, and lemon zest.
  6. Fill the molds with the mixture.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the tops are caramelized.
  8. Let cool before removing from the molds and serve.

Notes

For best results, avoid overfilling the molds as the filling expands while baking. Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar or cinnamon.
